Magic Towns

The great cultural and historical richness of Mexico is, and has always been, a great secret. Next to excellent examples of architecture, age-old cities converted into enduring icons of the past, there are great urban cities that have multiplied, concentrating a great part of their wealth into a productive force. In between, however, are delicate triumphs of tradition and old-world charm known as Magical Towns, small towns or cities that treasure awed stares, bright colors, a passion for everyday life, aromas and flavors that can brighten one up and rich tradition that is made even more so by those who wander their cobblestone streets or admire their time-aged roof tiles.

The Magical Towns Program, developed by the Department of Tourism of Mexico, in collaboration with state government offices, contributes to the reassessment of a group of towns that represent different alternatives for tourism, both national and international. More than just rescuing a little-known town from complete disregard, it is an acknowledgement of those who live in these places and have known how to safeguard the cultural and historical richness that surrounds them.

Of course, the list of towns that deserves this rank is not limited to the present list found here on the Internet. This is a relatively new concept which means that there is still a long way to experience all the beauty, wisdom and tradition of all the Magical Towns in Mexico.
